Post What is an Adsense site ?
on: October 17, 2011, 21:32

Hi Moe,

Could you please tell me what an Adsense site is ? What kind of content is on this site ? What stops people from just bouncing ? And why would they click on an add ? Is all the money made from just people clicking on the Adsense ads ? The traffic for this kind of site must have to be huge ? And then to pay for PPC to get people there would cost money. Do you try and get mostly SEO traffic ? Do you have any successful Adsense sites ? And how do Adsense sites compare with a regular information type site (where you sell products like an eBook etc), in terms of revenue ? It seems to be good to be true, this kind of set up.

And did you take that Adsense $100K course ? Is it good ?

Inquiringly yours, Alwyn

Hi Alwyn – I think it’s best if you read my Adsense post first:

Hi Moe,

That 0 to $2000…. post is a content rich post ! Unbelievable – you really pulled out all the stops on that one. I have read it twice now and only about 30% has registered. This has got me very excited about Adsense and putting up some Adsense sites.

I see now what an Adsense site is and all of my above questions have been answered. I had the impression that it was all or nothing but now I see that there are different degrees. Sunny’s site would be at the far end of an “Adsense site” and something like Keywordsblogger would be a very mild version. The degree to which you take it, depends on how prominent your Adsense ads are. If you put one in the top left hand corner of your homepage then you could certainly say that the number one action you want your audience to take would be click on an Adsense ad.

Best, Alwyn

Hi Alwyn,

You’re absolutely right – there are different degrees. There are people making $10 a month in Adsense revenue, and others making $10,000. It all depends on how much effort you put into getting traffic and testing placement of Adsense blocks.

As I mentioned in the comments on that blog post, there are a couple of excellent free Adsense resources I recently came across. They’re blogs, and both offer free reports on how they make Adsense revenue:

Hey Moe,

Joel Comm’s Adsense Secrets 5 is no longer free – it’s $27 with bonus’s or $17 for just the book. I think I will still buy it.

The Google keyword tool has changed again. In your 0 to $2000..post, when I searched for “testosterone therapy” with the “only show ideas closely related to my search terms” box checked (just like your example), the results that came up in the “keyword ideas” section, where you got many results, like, “effects of testosterone therapy” etc, I got zilch (0). It says “no search results found. Please try again”. This seems to have put a major damper on getting long tail keywords. Is there a way around this ?

And with an Adsense site portfolio, do you recommend staying in the same niche and using the same content in all your sites, all on multiple sites with different domains of long tail keywords ?

And thanks for the links, I’m going through them as we speak.

Ta, Alwyn

Hi Alwyn,

Good question re. the Google keyword tool. In my experience, the tool now has far fewer long tail keywords than it did a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, the only option for researching more long tails is to subscribe to additional keyword services, like Wordtracker or Keyword Discovery. But the best source of keyword data is your own site. Once a site is established and getting traffic the keyword in Google Analytics is gold.

Re. the Adsense sites, I recommend setting up multiple sites in the same niche, or related niches. That works best for me, because it means my outsourced writer becomes an expert on a certain topic, and it makes it easier for her to produce good-quality articles. But I know lots of people who don’t follow that strategy – they go where the CPC is the highest, regardless of the niche.

Hi Moe,

Google keyword tool is still pretty handy despite the changes.

You mean once your site has a bit of history and you start having traffic from various keywords pulled to your site, you can tell, using Google Analytics, which keywords are the best performing ?

And I am glad to hear that you concur with my plan. I am working on this now.

Thanks, Alwyn (soon to be a 1%’er, ha !)

Exactly.
