Post How to find the bullseye when trolling forums ?
on: February 21, 2011, 07:33

I have compiled a long list of problems in my chosen niche but the problems are too generic. I am finding it difficult honing in on specific problems, that I can address, when looking through forums. How do I get the juicy feedback that can lead to the jackpot ? It seems like most people are just talking about the same old story and there is a lot of ‘poor old me’ (and others responding, saying, “u poor thing” etc) and a lot of refusal to take responsibility. Most people just want to continue doing what they have always done and can’t figure out why things don’t change ! A lot of mainstream thinking and belief in the establishment (that IT will take care of them) which only aggravates their situation. I keep coming back to the solution that I believe would help them but how do I know if they are ready for it or willing to accept it ? I know that convincing them of a different path is difficult at best. Any thoughts, Alwyn

Great question, Alwyn. You made one key observation: “Most people just want to continue doing what they have always done…”. Does that mean they’re not a market in pursuit of a solution? If not, drop it – you’ll be trying to sell to people who have no interest in buying.

How about the other indicators of market desire – are people doing Google searches that imply intent to solve the problem? (You can find this out through keyword research using Google’s keyword tool.) Are there other businesses offering a solution to the problem? If so, how many? What kinds of solutions are being offered – are there a number of companies offering a range of solutions?

Hi Moe, thanks for your response. The answers to your questions in the second paragraph are all affirmative. And, yes, if I get the sense that a particular market have no interest in buying then I will drop it.

Thinking to myself here….to answer my original question, “How to find the bullseye…?”, I think what that would be is to look out for (as you have said prior) cry’s for help to a nagging problem that someone is having ( I have a hard time finding those but probably just need practice). There is a good chance that if one person has pain then many others will have the same pain too. Also look out for popular posts with high activity, like the one you found on ‘singing for snorers’ in the tutorial. That appeared to be a ‘hot’ topic for snorer sufferers at the time and you swooped in and addressed it with a solution (snoring exercises). Not only does the cry for help have to be genuine (not a pity party) but it also has to be something that you can offer a solution (product) to.
